Pete Ashworth

Pete Ashworth

Bass / Upright Bass / Harmony Vocals

Age 39

Pete is the band's quiet foundation in every sense — physically the tallest, harmonically the lowest, temperamentally the most still. He's a listener first: he rarely talks over others, absorbs everything in a room before he speaks, and has a dry, unexpected sense of humor that surfaces at perfect moments. On stage he plants himself and grooves with a locked-in ease that makes the whole band feel anchored. He's the reason Meadow never rushes a tempo even when the emotion of a song wants to.

Backstory

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Pete grew up in a household where folk music and jazz collided at the dinner table — his mother ran a community folk series, his uncle played upright bass in a local jazz quartet. He started on upright at thirteen, picked up electric bass at sixteen, and put himself through Portland State University playing weddings and coffee-shop gigs. After a decade of session work in the Pacific Northwest he relocated to LA for film and TV scoring opportunities, which led to a publishing contact who introduced him to Cal. Pete was initially reluctant to join a band again, but Meadow's unhurried approach convinced him.

Gear

1966 Kay M-1 upright bass, Fender Precision Bass (1976, natural ash finish), Ampeg B-15 Portaflex amp. ---

Visual Identity

Pete is tall and lean with a slightly angular, distinguished face — mid-to-late thirties with just a touch of silver beginning at his temples. He has short, dark brown hair with a clean side part, light grey eyes, and a clean-shaven face with a strong jaw. He dresses simply and with quiet quality: a fitted charcoal or navy Henley, slim dark trousers, and Chelsea boots in dark brown leather. No jewelry except a worn analog watch on his left wrist. His posture is relaxed but upright — he carries himself like someone who has played a lot of stages and is completely at ease on them.
