Latin / Reggaeton
Diego Salazar
From the streets of Medellín, rhythms that pulse with raw emotion and resilience.
Diego Salazar emerged from the vibrant, gritty neighborhoods of Medellín, Colombia, where the city's notorious past of conflict and reinvention shaped his worldview. Born in 1995 to a family of textile workers in the Comuna 13 district, Diego grew up amid the echoes of salsa and vallenato from corner radios, but it was the underground reggaeton scene that ignited his passion. As a teenager, he dodged the dangers of street life by scribbling lyrics in hidden notebooks, channeling the pain of lost friends and economic struggles into raw, rhythmic poetry.
His musical journey began in makeshift home studios, collaborating with local DJs and producers who fused traditional Latin sounds with urban edge. A breakout moment came in 2018 when a viral freestyle video on social media caught the eye of indie labels, leading to his first EP, *Calles Que Cantan*. Now, at Apex Sound Group, Diego's artistry evolves, blending pulsating dembow beats with introspective storytelling that explores themes of love, loss, and redemption. His philosophy? Music as therapy and testimony — raw emotion over polished perfection, resilience born from adversity. With a voice that carries the weight of Medellín's hills and the fire of its streets, Diego Salazar is poised to redefine reggaeton for a global audience, proving that true rhythm rises from the heart of the struggle.
